Kitsap Regional Library: A Vital Community Resource
Kitsap Regional Library is more than a place to check out books and access free wi-fi. For many, it is a vital community resource. While free books, book lockers, printing, and computer access are nice, they are only the tip of the iceberg. Your local library offers a range of informational materials, interesting events, helpful workshops, and fun activities.
Kitsap Regional Library has nine different branches. Some or all of the offerings listed below can be found at each branch. Be sure to check out their events calendar and filter the results by location to find out what your nearest library is currently offering.
Tax Preparation Assistance
With tax season in full force, the Kitsap Regional Library is offering AARP Tax-Aide sessions until April 15. Registration is required as drop-in service could be limited. This is a free, confidential service offered by the library system. IRS-trained and certified volunteers will be available to help you prepare your personal taxes.
Gardening Support
Kitsap Regional Library offers budding and experienced gardeners the opportunity to develop their skills. There is even a seed library with free, organic, non-GMO seeds. The seed libraries are located at the Port Orchard, Manchester, Little Boston, and Kingston branches. Additionally, you can learn more about gardening by attending an informational session with a guest speaker. Topics can range from bees to composting to sowing seeds. If you’re already an experienced gardener (or looking to gain wisdom from others), check out the Gardeners’ Tea Party at the Silverdale Library.
Gaming Resources
Do you have a teen or kid interested in Dungeons and Dragons? Or, maybe the family is looking for a new hobby to enjoy together? Check out this plethora of gathering times to learn about different games and play them with friends.
There are also Afternoon Gaming events for Infinity Games with the gaming consoles. Additionally, there are Teen Kits available. You can also check out video games through the library catalog.
Genealogical Study Resources
Kitsap Regional Library has partnered with Puget Sound Genealogical Society. Patrons can request access to materials housed in the center, as well as take genealogy classes through the library. There are monthly classes, family history writing courses, and family tree-building coaching sessions.
Story Times and Music Times Galore
For many parents of young children at home, weekday library events can add a breath of fresh air to the weekly routine. Kitsap Regional Library offers many sessions for those home with babies, toddlers or preschoolers. There are Baby Band sessions, preschool STEM classes, and family story times as well. You can also Read to a Dog, in partnership with Therapy Dogs International Kitsap. These events happen at different branches, including here at the Poulsbo Library.
All these sessions support early literacy and encourage social and emotional well-being. They’re also a great spot for caregivers to connect. Additionally, there are early learning backpack kits that can be checked out, as well as fun STEM activities to do at home.
Resources for the Creative Arts
Our libraries also offer many classes for creatives to come together. Whether crafting, knitting, participating in book clubs or writing groups, or even learning the ukulele, the library can support your artistic endeavors.
There are teen events with crafts available, “Crafternoons”, and fiber art circles, as well as “Knit at Night” events. Individuals can even learn how to play an instrument for free by utilizing the library’s Libby platform and accessing ArtistWorks. Looking for more creative classes throughout the region? Community Health Resources
The Peninsula Community Service Mobile Medical Clinic travels to various branches throughout the library system. Visitors can get help with insurance enrollment, discuss medical concerns, and connect with medical staff in the mobile clinic. A Fishline case manager is also available throughout the year. Offered as a drop-in service, they will provide direction on rental assistance, mental health therapists, food banks, and more.
Senior Resources
There are many recreational and professional services offered for seniors through our libraries. You can attend informational sessions about Medicare. There is also a session about healthy aging. (This is in addition to the wonderful selection of books that can be found on health topics.) Low-income seniors can connect with the Poulsbo Senior Resource Specialist, Leah Lovely. These drop-in sessions will provide information about available discounts, social groups in the area, and even caregiver support groups.
Summer Learning Resources
Kitsap Regional Library has multiple summer activities and resources to keep school-aged children occupied. Meant to be self-paced, there are summer reading activities and access to online resources that range from learning a new language to advancing in chess.

From Kingston to Port Orchard, our libraries across Kitsap County are home to librarians and staff members who are highly knowledgeable, friendly, and here to help. They can provide book bundles, one-on-one research assistance, mobile deliveries to those who qualify, and much more. All you have to do is ask. And, it is easy to get more involved.

Fantastic Fall Events and Activities in Kitsap County
Celebrate the season with some fun, family-friendly fall events and activities here in Kitsap County. Here’s a list to get you started. From dress-up days to pumpkin patches and everything in between, we’re sure there’s something that will pique your interest.
Ongoing Fall Events
Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch at Pheasant Fields Farm in Silverdale
October 1 – November 1, 2022
When it comes to fall events and activities, you have to check out Kitsap’s oldest and tallest corn maze. Walk the paths to solve a riddle and you’ll be entered to win a harvest prize basket. You’ll also find one of the largest collections of pumpkins, including different colors and shapes. Most pumpkins are grown on-site, while some come from Sequim. Grab a fall beverage, shop the farm stand, and enjoy their many photo opportunities.
Cost: Corn Maze tickets $6 for youth 16 and under, $8 for adults, $1 off for active duty military with ID, and there’s a coupon available on their website. Pumpkins are sold separately.
Have a Hoot Hunt at Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island
October 1 – 31, 2022
Explore the grounds of the famous Bloedel Reserve and see if you can spot where the woodland owls hid the squash and pumpkins. There are close to 100 squash waiting to be found. And, place your guess on the weight of the largest pumpkin to be entered to win a prize. Timed tickets are required and must be booked in advance (no walk-ups permitted).
Cost: $5 – $20 per person depending on age. Children 4 and under are free.
Pumpkin Walk at Bainbridge Gardens
October 1 – 31, 2022 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Nearing its third decade in operation, the Bainbridge Gardens Pumpkin Walk is a fall event you don’t want to miss. The Gardens’ historic Nature Trail is lined with hundreds of hand-painted and carved pumpkins as well as themed vignettes. There will be a straw maze for young children as well. Pumpkin submissions are being requested to add to the pathway, and are an integral part to complete the experience. Also, you can guess the weight of a large pumpkin, and delicious food trucks will be on-site on Saturdays.
Cost: Free to attend, and donations are accepted for Bainbridge Island Boys and Girls Club.
Harvest Fest at Miracle Ranch Camp in Port Orchard
October 21 – 23 and October 28 – 30, 2022 (times vary by day)
An extravaganza for the whole family, Harvest Fest includes classic activities like hay rides, face painting, crafts, apple pressing, a petting zoo, and a rodeo. Meals are available as well as sweet fall treats like candied apples, cotton candy, and kettle corn. Most activities are free. But if you want to take it up a notch, you can add on additional excursions like pony rides, a climbing wall, or even an overnight stay. Miracle Ranch is located south of downtown Port Orchard, near the small community of Purdy.
Cost: Free to attend. Extra activities and food available for purchase.
Fall Pumpkin Patches
Fat Turnip Farms in Kingston
Out in the little community of Eglon, Fat Turnip Farms sells certified organic produce at their farm stand and has a u-pick pumpkin patch with tons of different options as well as late-season, u-pick flowers. Their setup offers many great places to take photos with friends or little ones, and they periodically offer events. Be sure to check their Facebook page for details.

Suyematsu Farms on Bainbridge Island
An Island favorite for u-pick, Suyematsu Farms is back at it this year with their wonderful pumpkin patch. They grow a large variety of squashes, gourds, and pumpkins. Celebrate autumn, take photos, and find some colorful, delicious fall decor. Check their Instagram and/or their Facebook page to find out about special happenings.

One-Day Events
HOWL-O-WEEN at IslandWood on Bainbridge Island
October 23, 2022 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Don your Halloween costume and hit the trails! This family-friendly event at IslandWood is a wonderful walk through the woods with hot cider, warm cookies, and other fall treats. Naturalists will be on-site to teach about the “spooky” nature of nocturnal animals. Participants can enjoy a fall craft and bone yard investigation as well as a lecture about wildlife. Costumes are encouraged but not required.
Cost: $2.50 for kids and $5 for adults. Financial assistance is available.
Boo Bash hosted by Port Orchard Bay Street Association
October 29, 2022 from Noon – 4:00 PM
Bring the family and enjoy downtown Port Orchard. Participate in the costume contest from noon to 2:00 PM and take the kids trick-or-treating at Bay Street businesses from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. And, this event wraps up with a pet costume contest at 4:00 PM. For more information, check the Bay Street Association’s Facebook page.

Drive-Thru Halloween Hunt hosted by the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce
October 29, 2022 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Back for the third year, this popular drive-thru trick-or-treat event weaves around Poulsbo to visit businesses handing out candy. The hunt begins at the Poulsbo Village Shopping Center where you’ll receive a map and a free tote bag (if you’re one of the first 800 participants). Then follow the route for candy and prizes! Non-perishable food and monetary donations will be accepted for Fishline Food Bank at the start of the event.
Cost: Free to attend, but non-perishable food donations are highly encouraged.
Pre-school Spooktacular by Poulsbo Parks and Rec
October 31, 2022 from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Geared toward younger kids, this fun event is a great way to kick off your Halloween festivities. With a superhero theme and lots of crafts and activities planned, it is sure to be a Marvel-ous time.
Cost: Free to attend for kids 5 and under. $1 for older children
Ghoulsbo Celebration in Downtown Poulsbo
October 31, 2022 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Enjoy the rare treat of walking right down the middle of Front Street! This Poulsbo trick-or-treat classic is back after a hiatus. Sponsored by the Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association, merchants will be handing out candy in front of their shops. It is the most costumes you will ever see in one place in Poulsbo.

Halloween Walk in Downtown Winslow, Bainbridge Island
October 31, 2022 at 3:30 PM
This safe trick-or-treating event in Winslow invites participants to wear a costume, enjoy hot cider, and listen to spooky tunes from the Eagle Harbor Church’s bell tower. Hosted by the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, you’ll also get to cast your vote for the best merchant costume.

Kitsap’s Indoor Fun: Great Places to Take Kids
While there are many wonderful outdoor gems across Kitsap County, here are some fun indoor places to enjoy on cold, rainy days. These family-friendly activities are great for kids of different ages and many are free or under $15.
Interesting Indoor Activities in the Bremerton Area
Ahoy Kitsap Playland in Bremerton
This indoor playground and virtual reality play place offers drop-in play, punch cards, and monthly memberships, plus birthday party options. The play space is designed for kids ages 2 – 12, and they offer options for younger toddlers as well. There is a snack bar and a bar for those 21 and older.

Bug and Reptile Museum in Bremerton
This free museum has lots of creepy crawlies to check out, and it is a great educational opportunity for kids. There are numerous types of insects, live reptiles, and even an 8-foot ant farm. Don’t forget to visit their gift shop. It has fun toys and some are educational.

Cascade Elite Gymnastics West in Silverdale
This 16,000 sq. ft. facility features setups for gymnasts and tumblers of all ages starting at 6 months for parent/baby classes. Open gym, gymnastics classes, parkour, dance teams, and ninja school are some of the offerings available.

Defy Trampoline Park in Silverdale
This indoor trampoline park is a great way to burn off energy with different areas for different ages and abilities. Timed entry helps to give everyone ample space to bounce. You can reserve time to host birthdays or events here. Special socks required (must be purchased on-site).

Haselwood Family YMCA in Silverdale
From aquatics to group exercise classes, personal training to weights and cardio equipment, and even streaming classes, the Y has something for everyone! Summer camps are available as well as youth sports and swimming lessons.

Insight Climbing Rock Gym in Bremerton
In the newest location of this gym, you’ll find both day-use passes and monthly memberships available, and routes for different abilities as well as bouldering walls. They offer classes and the option for booking private parties.

Puget Sound Navy Museum in Bremerton
One of 10 museums funded and operated by the U.S. Navy, this museum’s roots date back to the 1950s. There are permanent exhibits as well as temporary ones, and you can even find some exhibits online. It’s a great spot to visit when in downtown Bremerton or make a day trip out of it.

Valentinetti Puppet Museum in Bremerton
Learn about how puppets have changed over time and take a tour of the facility. There’s a children’s play area with monthly “make and take” activities, and a gift shop with a wide variety of books and different types of puppets.

Bainbridge Island Family Fun
Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center in Bainbridge Island
At the Don Nakata pool, you’ll find amenities for kids of all ages including a beach-entry pool, tot pool, water slide, lazy-river, and frog slide as well as lap swim and a sauna.

Insight Climbing Rock Gym in Bainbridge Island
With both day-use passes and monthly memberships available, this 8,500 sq. ft. climbing gym has multiple routes for climbers of different abilities to enjoy as well as some auto-belay options. They offer classes and have the option for booking private parties or groups.

KiDiMu (Kids Discovery Museum)
Located next to the Bainbridge Island Art Museum, this children’s museum features exhibits and activities designed for kids aged 6 months to 8 years. KiDiMu also offers workshops and events. It’s a wonderful space that encourages imaginative play and exploration.

Dancing Brush Studio in Poulsbo
Visit the studio for in-person painting, or choose a kit to paint at home and drop back off for firing. This Poulsbo staple is great for people of all ages and artistic abilities as well as group paint nights or birthday parties.

Kitsap Regional Library Classes & Events
Our local libraries across Kitsap County host a variety of virtual and in-person classes and events. This includes the branch in Kingston where the library is located within the Village Green Community Center. The Village Green is also home to the Boys & Girls Club, event spaces, meet-ups for local youth and adult groups, and more.
Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport
Learn all about the history of the Navy’s undersea operations and the exceptional people and technology that have made it possible. Look through a periscope, learn about torpedoes, or check out a replicated control room.

Sea & Shore Museum on the 2nd floor of Port Gamble General Store
Collected by a former Port Gamble resident, this is the second-largest private collection of seashells in the world. You’ll find many types of starfish, shells of all shapes and sizes, shark teeth, and more.
